my Human condition

frozen lake

The frozen lake glistened

with its vast flat swathe of nothingness

as if reflecting,

that what i felt within.

‘A poignant nothingness’

safe yet unsettling.

I had come here

to get away from everything,

everyone.

I had succeeded in my little foil

and here i stood

wrapped in my thick white cloak of solitude.

But the suffusion of despair

thick in air

refused to dissipate.

The frail human condition

pre-conditioned to vivacious existence

felt painfully pathetic,

as my heart longed

brimming with a profound yearning

for someone, anyone

to be along.
